About Silver Screen Survey

"Let me explain... no, there is too much. Let me sum up."
-The Princess Bride
(1987)

Sleepless in Seattle (1993)

It's winter, a time to curl up with a blanket and spend long hours indoors. Meanwhile, many of us are simplifying and trying to be more frugal. Instead of going to the theatre or a first-run movie, we might instead choose to settle in at home with a favorite DVD. As a bonafide movie lover, I know my favorites, my go-to standards (WHAT? You've never seen Joe vs. the Volcano?!?) but I'd like to hear about yours. By sharing our favorites here, we can all add to each other's cinematic enjoyment. So pop some popcorn and pick out your favorites in these totally random categories.

A few rules (more like guidelines, really):

  • Don't overthink this. The first movie that comes to mind in a particular category is fine. It doesn't have to be THE best or your ABSOLUTE favorite-- just something you want to recommend.
  • Obscure films are fine-- even encouraged. This is not a popularity contest.
  • Feel free to vote early and often. Don't feel the need to limit yourself to one suggestion per category.
  • Somebody already suggested your favorite? Go ahead and reiterate, repeat, and be redundant.
  • Come and go as you please. You don't have to respond to every category at once, or even at all. As movies come to mind, add them.
  • Want to suggest another totally random category to augment those listed here? Leave a comment on this post with your suggestion.
  • In the spirit of friendly sharing, please don't judge or negatively comment on others' submissions. All suggestions welcome!

Feel free to share this blog with other movie lovers. And be sure to check back as more people contribute their film favorites. Hope you find some movie ideas to warm your winter nights!

You'll find our list of categories to the right. Post your suggestions in the comment section-- as many movies as you like, but let's be succinct. A sentence or two of explanation is fine, but no masters theses, please. Ready? GO!
