"Never get involved in a land war in Asia." -The Princess Bride (1987) Carol's pick: Glory (1989) - based on the true story of the Civil War's first all black volunteer company.
This is kind of random considering I'm not generally interested in this type of movie, but I've seen the made for TV "Gettysburg" more times than I can remember (probably due to my entire family going through a brief obsession with it), even thought it's 4 hours long. It's based off Michael Shaara's "The Killer Angels" which is a very good book, and for anyone perusing this site who might be a West Wing fan, General Lee was played by Martin Sheen. The soundtrack is also one of my favorite movie scores.
I'm a sucker for epic and idealistic movies where people battle on behalf of their principles and working as a team, and so on. If I were to pick just one, then I would go with "Braveheart".
