"Do you know what that sound is, Highness? Those are the shrieking eels!" -The Princess Bride (1987) Carol's pick: That Thing You Do!(1996) - Tons of toe-tappin' fun. Written and directed by my favorite, Tom Hanks.
The Red Violin (1998) = a dramatic fiction that spans three centuries and five countries as it tells the story of a violin and its many owners Almost Famous (2000) Frances McDormand is always great, but Kate Hudson's performance makes all of her work since feel trite and stupid in comparison. I loved her as Penny Lane. The Blues Brothers (1980) - one of my family's favorite funny movies
It's a candidate for "Guilty Pleasure," as well, but Empire Records is my pick in this category.
ReplyDeleteRachel: High Fidelity
ReplyDeleteAugust Rush, Amadeus, and Empire Records
ReplyDeleteI would add A Hard Day's Night and the beautiful and sweet Once, a surprise Oscar winner (Best Song).
ReplyDeletePat B. entry: Amadeus (1984)

In order to not violate my no-repeat rule, I'm going to say Blues Brothers 2000.
