Historical Movie

"Have you ever heard of Plato? Aristotle? Socrates? Morons."
-The Princess Bride (1987)

Carol's pick: Apollo 13 (1995) - How can it be history if I remember it?

  1. Mom and I debated whether "historical" had to mean "based on a true story." I say, no, it just needs to have a historical setting. She said, yes, it has to be truly a part of history. So I'm going to give one from each category

    Sense and Sensibility (fictional)
Eight Men Out (based on a true story)

  3. Gangs of New York (2002) - It is a very violent film, but I think, in the end, it was necessary to be this graphic. After you watch it, I could discuss with you why. It is well acted, especially by Daniel Day-Lewis and artistically executed. It's about how modern day New York was formed through the conflict between "native-born" Americans, immigrants (many of them Irish), reactions to the conscription of the Civil War, racism, politicians, religious banners, etc.
